Hill honored by Beta Sigma Chapter

IRON MOUNTAIN — June “Pauline” Hill of Kingsford was honored with the Alpha-Iota State’s Lifetime Service Award and the Alpha-Iota State’s Longevity Award at the Beta Sigma Chapter’s May 11 meeting.

These awards, which were issued by the Michigan Alpha-Ionta State Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter, recognize members for their contributions to education and to the longevity of their commitment to the DKG organization.

Hill has been instrumental with contributions both to the DKG society and to the educational lives of countless children and adults.

She has been a dedicated, active member of Beta Sigma Chapter for 48 years and was honored as the chapter’s Woman of Distinction in 2011.

Hill’s 34-year teaching career in Michigan included Brimley, Waterford Township, Garden and her final 29 years at East Elementary in Iron Mountain. She taught first and second grades throughout her career.

After her retirement, she was trained in California on administering standardized assessments for the Nation’s Report Card. For 10 additional years after her retirement, she was the assessment coordinator who lead a team to administer standardized tests in the Upper Peninsula, Northern Lower Peninsula, and Northern Wisconsin.

Hill organized and continues to run the Dickinson County Parkinson’s Support Group. She conducts informative monthly meetings, and has planned and moderated highly successful Parkinson’s symposiums in the U.P. for the past three years. The speakers she has brought in are nationally renowned Parkinson’s specialists and authors. She now works closely with the Michigan Parkinson’s Chapter and is planning a fourth symposium Sept. 27.

She was married for 36 years to the late Robert Hill and they had two sons, Peter and the late Dr. Robert “Bob” Hill. She also has four grandchildren.

She is very active in her PEO organization, Trinity United Methodist Church, and voluntarily plans and runs an exercise class for seniors.
