Community strength training program offered

AURORA, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Extension Florence County, Florence County Aging and Disability Resource Center, and the Florence County Health Department will offer the Strong Bodies Program of exercises for middle-aged and older adults.

The 10-week program will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays for about 60 minutes and go through a routine of 10 exercises using dumbbells and ankle weights that are provided.

Classes will be offered at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Woodland Regional Learning Center, 2030 Calvary Drive in Aurora, Wis., starting the week of Aug. 19 through Oct. 23. Two class sessions will be available, from 10 to 11 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m.

Each class includes progressive weight training, flexibility and balance activities. Tierany Rugg, UW-Extension human development and relationships educator, will teach the programs. All instructors have been trained in the Strong Bodies program and have had personal successes participating and leading strength training.

Registration deadline is Monday. Those interested in participating in the Strong Bodies Program can contact Sara Jerue at the Florence County Health Department, at 715-528-4837, for proper paperwork. Participants need not be Florence County residents.
