AAUW to meet Sept. 24

Reservation deadline set for Monday, Sept. 16

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain/ Kingsford Branch of the American Association of University Women will have its first monthly meeting of 2019-2020 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Chippewa Club.

The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.

The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will feature Karla Lehmann of the Dickinson County Child Advocacy Center speaking on “Child Forensics.” A short business meeting will follow the program.

The meal includes green salad with apples and salted caramel vinaigrette, a slow-cooked brisket tower on sourdough bread, and mashed potatoes with Swiss cheese tangles in a southern sauce. The dessert is the weekly dessert feature.

The cost of the meal is $26 without dessert and $32 with dessert. Beverages may also be purchased from the financial officer and are $7 for wine, $2.50 for soda and $6 for mixed drinks.

AAUW is a nationally recognized nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that strives to promote equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy.

The Iron Mountain/Kingsford Branch of AAUW supports this mission by providing scholarships for area women to attend a two- or four-year college or university of their choice.

They also advance equity for women and girls through its mission-based programs, Speech Trek competition, annual book sale, Candidates’ Forum and Start Smart workshop.
