ADRC sponsors free caregivers conference

Reservations due by Friday

AURORA, Wis. — Are you someone who helps a person with tasks they used to do by themselves, such as meals, household chores, grocery shopping, arranging medical appointments, providing transportation or ongoing care?

A yes answer to any of these questions means you are a caregiver.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Florence County invites all caregivers to join them for a day of education.

The ADRC will sponsor a free caregiver conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Aurora. The day will be filled with sessions aimed at providing caregivers with education, tools, resources and information.

To kick off the caregiver conference, Dr. Colleen Teska from Radiant Natural Health Clinic will discuss alternative medicine options for self-care and stress management. She also will teach caregivers quick and easy exercises and breathing techniques to help counteract and manage stress.

Cori Marsh, dementia care specialist from the ADRC of Rock County in southern Wisconsin, will present “Overwhelmed and Unpaid: The Family Caregiver.” This program will address the struggles family caregivers face — they often find themselves feeling overwhelmed and ill-equipped to meet the needs of their loved one, let alone take care of themselves. She will share ways caregivers can care for themselves while surviving those challenges.

Tammy Rosa from UPCAP will teach about Respite Education and Support Tools, or REST, for the second half of the day. REST is a unique, interactive training program where caregivers will receive the education and tools needed to be confident and successful in providing care to their loved one.

Reservations are required by Friday because space is limited. Florence County caregivers may be eligible for reimbursement of respite care costs, if needed, for this event.

For additional information or to reserve a space, contact the ADRC of Florence County at 715-528-4890, or stop between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays in room 125 on the lower level of the Florence County Courthouse, 501 Lake Ave. in Florence, Wis.
