Crystal Falls Lions Club helps fund community projects

Wyatt Imhoff approached the club for support in his efforts to get the Feeding America Truck to the area. Imhoff, a Boy Scout working on his Eagle Scout project, raised $3,500 to pay for the transportation and materials needed to bring this program in September. Al Pieper, Lions Club member, presented a check for $500 to Imhoff. To donate to his project, contact him through St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 809 Crystal Ave., Crystal Falls, Mi, 49920.

CRYSTAL FALLS — The Crystal Falls Lions Club looks for ways to assist community members and do projects in Iron and north Dickinson counties.

They are members of the International Lions Club, which is the largest service organization in the world, and offers an opportunity for everyday people of the community to make great things happen in their area.

In the past, the Crystal Falls Lions Club would do the work rather than hire a contractor.

However, since much of their membership is aging and unable to do the physical work, they are funding for the work to be contracted out. Events such as their annual Bass Festival and White Cane collections help them provide assistance such as the check given to Anita Siems to have a ramp installed at her home. They also support other community groups.

Those who know of someone who need assistance can contact the Crystal Falls Lions Club by calling president Joy Fredericks by phone 906-284-3366 or sending an email to srmoment@hotmail.com.

Joy Fredricks, right, president of the Crystal Falls Lions Club, present a check for $500 to Angie Dohl, manager of the Crystal Theatre in Crystal Falls.

The club also welcomes and encourages new members to join. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Lions Den at Runkle Lake Park in Crystal Falls.

The Crystal Falls Lions Club was approached by Anita Siems, requesting assistance in funding a much-needed ramp at her home. Al Pieper, Lions club member, recently presented Siems with a check to cover part of the construction. Hegstrom Construction Company will do the work, so the check was made out to them.
