Library Prom Dress Swap this weekend

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain has planned its annual Prom Dress Swap this weekend. Local women who plan to attend Zonta’s Give Back Gala (formerly “Mom Prom”) are invited to come from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday to shop for a dress, as Saturday is reserved for high school students.

All library branches now are accepting donations of gently used and clean dresses, shoes, and other prom accessories such as purses, jewelry, and slips for the swap. Items should include a hanger, if possible, and be marked with the dress size if the tag is missing. Donations will be accepted through Friday.

This event allows teens in ninth through 12th grades to take home and keep a formal dress and accessories. There is no charge to attend, or to take home a dress. No donation is required; however, those who do donate will receive a ticket for admission during the first hour of the swap Saturday and Sunday. Those who do not donate a dress can attend during general admission after the first hour.

This year, if a Give Back Gala attendee wants to “check” out a dress out from the library — just like a book — for the event, then she would have to have:

— A library card in good standing and;

— A ticket to the gala. If a gala attendee “checks” out a dress, she has to then have the dress dry-cleaned and returned to the library by April 17. If she does not return the dress, she will be charged for the dress at a price to be determined by the Dickinson Country Library.

Library cards are free to Dickinson County residents/ taxpayers and non-residents can purchase a card for $17.50 that is good for six months. The bonus to getting a card is that it can be used the next six months — including digital services that are available anywhere with an internet connection.

More information is on the library’s Facebook event page and website, www.dcl-lib.org, as well as on the Zonta Club of Iron Mountain-Kingsford’s Facebook event page.
