Helping hands often are needed

A little child is unable to reach the doorknob to open the door. A wheelchair occupant, or a young mom with her hands full of groceries, cannot open a door. There are many instances when a helping hand is needed to open doors and we who are able can provide that assistance.

Our walk with the Lord and our life experiences enable us to “open doors” of understanding and service to others, including our own children and new believers. We are, in essence, “God’s hands.”

God’s word expressed in our witness may cause someone to open the door of his or her heart to Jesus Christ.

Remember the actions of Christ’s hands when he was here on earth. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, calmed the anxious, comforted the sorrowing, rebuked evil, and calmed the storms among other things. Perhaps you are saying, “My hands are deformed, crippled — what can I possibly do?” Recall how Jesus enabled his disciples to do his work. They, too, had limitations.

Down through the ages, God has shown his power through ordinary people, those who have willingly submitted to him. 1 Corinthians 1:27 “…but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong.”

We tend to think in terms of miracles and feel that anything less is insignificant. God, however, uses little things with great impact. It is his power, not our own, that propels us to help others and love is at the core — his love in us.

We can only love others when the love of God abides in us.

Matthew 22:39 — “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

When we are as concerned about others as we are of ourselves, we can be “God’s hands” in this needy world.
