Golden K gathers for meeting

KINGSFORD — Sunshine and lots of it greeted the Golden K members Monday morning.

As dedicated to volunteering their services in the community, they focus primarily on special-needs children. The group hosts parties and picnics throughout the year for the kids. These seniors also find time to volunteer in other community activities as well.

The club meet every Monday morning at the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford. They welcome visitors at any of their weekly meetings. Meetings sometime include programs and sometimes just business and conversation. The coffee is always on and the doughnuts are optional. There isn’t a better way to jumpstart the week. Everyone is encouraged to join in the fun and be surprised with the other members as the meeting unfolds.

Guests welcomed Monday were Pat Church, Sarah Godspodarek, Kathy Anderson and Kathy Arnold, director of the Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency.

Happy birthday wishes went to Orice Walters on June 23; Gilbert Engel on June 25 and Virginia Determan on June 26.

Alyce Derwinski rolled out the piano and Al Calcari dusted off his directing moves and the singing began to fill the hall. It was as though we never had a break for the pandemic. Familiar songs echoed down the halls — it just doesn’t get any better.

Family visits on the holiday, sunshine, friends, masks gone, shots taken and COVID-19 is hopefully behind us. On with the “normal,” if we can remember what that is.

Chairperson Lois Outcelt reminded members there will be no meeting Monday, as the church has Vacation Bible School planned. See everyone on June 21.
