Sons of Legend play Thursday at Crystal Theatre

CRYSTAL FALLS — Sons of Legend take the stage at Crystal Theatre at 7 p.m. Thursday in the series of Third Thursday concerts featuring local talent.

Getting its name from the sons and grandson of “The Legend,” Harley Davis Sr. of Harley and the Country Boys fame, Sons of Legend has been together since 2014. The present lineup includes Jay Davis and Chris West on lead guitar, Kirk Atanasoff on drums, Russ Fennick on bass and veteran blues harp player Rick Bailey.

Thanks to the rhythm guitarist Harley Davis Sr., Sons of Legend is influenced heavily by the blues as well as hard rock, southern rock and outlaw country. Davis, with his gritty rock style, and Bailey, with his soulful blues style, reminiscent of great blues musicians of the deep South, take turns singing lead. The combination of these influences and the diversity of the musicians produce a raucous yet fluent merging of those styles into something uniquely called Sons of Legend.

Since 2016, The Sons have performed at the Marquette Area Blues Festival; the Northwoods Blues Festival in Chippewa Falls, Wis.; The Log Jam Music Festival in Channing; the Northwoodstock Music Festival in Land O’Lakes, Wis.; and the Pig in the Pines Festival in St. Germain, Wis. Before the pandemic, the group headlined the End of Summer Blues Festival in Alpha for four consecutive years.

Tickets for this final event in the fall series of Third Thursday concerts are available at the door. Drawing for raffle prizes featured in the Crystal Theatre 30th anniversary coupon booklet will also take place at this event.
