MCHS-Dickinson adds new staff in IM, Florence

SHAVONDA (THOMAS) BAUMGARTNER

Marshfield Clinic Health System-Dickinson has added to its team of health care providers.

Dr. Shavonda (Thomas) Baumgartner is board-certified in internal medicine with a focus on public health. She specializes in caring for adults with complex, chronic and multisystem disorders, such as diabetes, heart disease or other long-term conditions.

Baumgartner most recently was an internal medicine-primary care physician at Novant Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. A native of Georgia, she received her doctorate of medicine from the Medical College of Georgia before earning a master of public Health from the University of North Carolina.

“Being a primary care physician allows me to practice well-rounded medicine, collaborate with specialists in every field, and develop longstanding relationships with my patients,” Baumgartner said.

She was introduced to the Upper Peninsula by her fiancé, Matthew. She said Iron Mountain “very much reminds me of my home in rural Georgia.” She looks forward to outdoor activities and enjoys running, cycling, traveling, spending time with her family and church.

Massabni completed his internal medicine residency, cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Massabni has an established working relationship with Dr. Clay Shaker and the cardiology team at MCHS-Dickinson. Many cardiology patients in Iron Mountain and the surrounding area have already been patients of Massabni, as before coming to MCH-Dickinson, he was an interventional cardiologist at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

“I am fortunate to be in a field that provides me satisfaction every day, knowing that I make a tangible difference in patients’ outcomes,” Massabni said. “Vascular disease continues to be underdiagnosed and undertreated. I aim to help expand the scope of vascular services from screening to diagnosis and treatment to change the natural progression of the disease.”

Originally from Lebanon, Massabni lives in Green Bay with his wife, Kim, and son, Nicholas, who will be attending Northwestern University for premed next year after he graduates from Notre Dame Academy. His other son, Joseph, is a sophomore at the University of Chicago studying economics and computer science. Outside work, Massabni enjoys spending time with his family, reading and traveling.

Massabni joins the Regional Heart Care Clinic providing heart health checks, advanced diagnostics, heart health plans and cardiac rehabilitation.
