Local agency featured in major trucking magazine

IRON MOUNTAIN – A local company was featured in the January issue of a major trucking magazine, “Overdrive.”

LKJ Agency Inc. is an independent agent for Landstar Transportation Logistics and the owner-operator is Lindley Johnson.

Johnson started the business in 2006 in Spread Eagle, Wis., and moved it in 2007 to 500 S. Stephenson Ave. in Suite 502 of the Northern Michigan Bank building in Iron Mountain.

When Johnson started up his agency it was a one-person office, and today he has two employees.

In the article in “Overdrive,” Johnson is one of two former truckers featured who have used their experience ‘over-the-road’ in their new job opportunities.

Johnson started up his business after a decade of trucking with the final 5-6 years leased to Landstar System. His advice to anyone interested in getting into the freight brokering/agenting is to be prepared to build slowly.

He added in the article that his driving background did give him ‘instant credibility with drivers.’ Johnson is able to talk the language with them and enjoys the camaraderie with the drivers.

“The agent model among brokerages is akin to the leasing model at carriers, and Landstar’s agent model fits the mold to one degree or another – its agents, like its owner-operators, are independent businesses operating under the larger entity’s authority in a dedicated relationship,” the article stated.
