MARQUETTE – The Upper Peninsula Health Plan (UPHP) has been awarded accreditation again as a Medicaid managed-care organization from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), earning a special distinction of “commendable.”

The accreditation status was awarded “for service and clinical quality that meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.” This reaccreditation was earned after a survey of UPHP’s work during the past three years.

Accreditation reflects a health plan’s ability to work with its members and providers to improve the quality of clinical care. It shows that the plan continues to build partnerships that are critical to delivering great care and great service.

President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis H. Smith said that “it is gratifying for the UPHP staff and providers to continue to be recognized for the high-quality care and value-based services that they provide Upper Peninsula residents.”

UPHP was first accredited in 2003, with subsequent accreditations awarded every three years. Each accreditation affirms UPHP’s successful compliance with NCQA’s nationally recognized standards for managed-care organizations.

UPHP contracts with managed-care firms, insurance companies, and governmental agencies to provide managed health care in all 15 Upper Peninsula counties.
