Milwaukee-area June home sales up 23 percent

MILWAUKEE (AP) – A trade association says sales of existing homes in the Milwaukee area spiked more than 23 percent last month from a year earlier.

A monthly report from the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors said Tuesday that there were 2,370 home closings in June in the four area counties, up from 1,924 a year ago. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports it was the strongest June for the area market in at least 15 years.

The Realtors group said average sale prices went up by double-digit percentages in the first half of 2015 in Milwaukee, Washington and Ozaukee counties.

Group president Mike Ruzicka said this year’s market is “very solid” and he expects it to continue, though it still hasn’t recovered from a “very deep recession.”
