IRON MOUNTAIN – Randy and Sherri Erickson, owners of Erickson Jewelers in Iron Mountain, have been in the jewelry industry for more than 20 years each.

They have owned Erickson Jewelers for the past six years. And having their own store, has provided them with an opportunity to travel to Antwerp, Belgium to buy diamonds for their customers with the Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO).

They will be leaving Oct. 1, on their fourth diamond “hunting” trip.

Antwerp, Belgium is the diamond capital of the world. Approximately 80 percent of the world’s diamonds travel through Antwerp at some in their journey.

“Traveling directly to the source to hand pick diamonds for our customers has been a very rewarding experience,” noted Sherri Erickson. “We literally look at thousands of diamonds before finding what we are looking for. It’s like we’re on a treasure hunt.”

Randy adds that their goal going to Antwerp is to come back with the biggest, most beautiful diamond for their customer’s budget. They like to sit with each customer prior to leaving to discuss exactly what they’re looking for.

“It adds an unique element to a special gift knowing we traveled more than 8,000 miles to pick it out for them,” he said.
