Dickinson Chamber Alliance hosts annual dinner, awards presented

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Dickinson Area Chamber Alliance hosted their second annual dinner recently at Pine Mountain Resort.

Classic Auto Collision was the major sponsor of the event.

Keith Huotari served as master of ceremonies for the evening, and Justin Cown presented the 2014-15 year in review photos showing member businesses participating in events throughout the year.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of two awards – Large Business of the Year and new this year – Distinguished Member of the Year.

Suzanne Anderson, marketing director of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union and the 2014 Ambassador of the Year, presented Allison Maloney, general manager of Country Inn & Suites and Days Inn of Iron Mountain, with this year’s Distinguished Member of the Year honor.

Maloney wears many hats in the community serving as the secretary of the ambassadors for the Chamber of Commerce, is a board member on the Chamber Alliance’s board of directors as well as president-elect of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Kiwanis service organization. She also serves as a liaison between the Dickinson Chamber Alliance and local businesses by helping to host local events and attending ribbon cutting events.

Maloney serves on several chamber committees and on the Tourism Association Board of Directors. She was recognized for serving as a stellar “Distinguished Member of the Year” for her overall community volunteerism.

Michigan Works! was recognized as the underwriter for the large business award, and representing the organization was Heather Olson, Sara Micheau and presenter, Erika Justus.

The Large Business of the Year Award was presented to Timber Products of Iron Mountain Inc. Candy Buchcuski, owner/operator and daughter, Stacey Lantagne, accepted the award together.

Buchcuski outlined the many accomplishments that Timber Products has received noting that they have been in business for 25 years, of which she has been the sole owner for five years.

Timber Products of Iron Mountain Inc. was awarded the Best Small Business of the Year for the Upper Peninsula in 2010, and in 2013 they were awarded the National Woman Based Enterprise, which is renewed yearly.

“This award is really not mine. It belongs to all of our employees,” she said also attributed much of their success to her daughter, Stacey, future owner of the business. “Because of her dedication and determination, she is the heart and soul of this business.”
