Suicide prevention event set Saturday

IRON MOUNTAIN – Community HOPE for Suicide Prevention will hold a fund-raiser cookout Saturday, Aug. 16, at Econo Foods.

Volunteers will be on hand to sell awareness wristbands for $2 each and other miscellaneous suicide prevention awareness merchandise will be available.

The cookout will be held during from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donation fund-raiser cards are being sold inside Econo Foods for $1 each to help raise much-needed funding for suicide prevention.

Every 13 minutes a person dies by suicide in the United States. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 24-year-old persons.

Community HOPE for Suicide Prevention encourages active community involvement and attendance at the 6th Annual Dickinson County Out Of The Darkness Community Walk at City Park in Iron Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 6.

“Come join us and support suicide prevention efforts in our community,” a spokesperson said.
