Norway Township Board funds mapping program

NORWAY TOWNSHIP — The Norway Township Board has agreed to participate in the GIS mapping program that will let the public access information about properties in the municipality.

The city of Norway and Breitung and Waucedah townships already use this program. Beginning July 1, users can log onto the Norway Township webpage at www.norwaytwpmi.com to such information as winter and summer tax bills, zoning classification, sales history, purchase price, home description and property location.

The township will pay a $3,000 one-time cost to Coleman Engineering to collect and put this information on the township website. The city of Norway will be paid $2,000 annually to host this program, though that cost should go down within three years, township officials said.

The township’s website, www.norwaytwpmi.com, is now functioning and will be kept updated. Residents can send items for possible listing to township clerk Joyce Giuliani at the site.

In other business, the township board:

— Discussed the cost of the spring clean-up. The collection method may change in the future to better ensure only allowable materials are dropped off and only township residents are using the dumpsters. Thirty-two tons of material was collected this year at a cost of $5,200.

— Heard that repairs on WPA Road, Fairview Drive and South Circle Drive will be done later this year. The cost for the work has been reduced by about $11,000 from Bacco Construction’s original $185,000 estimate.

— Was told three employees have been hired as temporary summer help, primarily to maintain the cemetery grounds.

— Authorized spending $600 to replace the storage shed roof at the recreation site.

— Learned from Tim Schultz, Dickinson County Racing Association representative, that the DCRA will have a fireworks show June 30 at the fairgrounds and a jet car event Aug. 18. These events will coincide with the stock car races.

— Encouraged residents to contact township officials if they need help in getting rid of blight on their property. Township residents have been addressing blight issues when contacted; this cooperation has been greatly appreciated, board members said.
