Tolling of the Bell: Pancheri family holds reunion

ELEANOR PANCHERI, 99, tolls the bell in memory of her father, Isadore Pancheri. Eleanor is the last living sibling of Isadore and Mamie Pancheri. Eleanor recalled the original dedication of the bell in 1934 as a young girl.

QUINNESEC — The Pancheri family gathered recently in Quinnesec for a family reunion and to ring the St. Mary Catholic Church bell.

About 100 family members and friends attended from across the country to witness the tolling the bell. The bell was donated to St. Mary Catholic Church in 1934 by family patriarch, Isadore Pancheri.

The bell was tolled 22 times by different members of the Pancheri family in memory of their loved ones who are deceased.

The bell has been restored and now is housed on the grounds of the Breitung Township Hall for anyone to view.

Funding for the restoration and housing of the bell was done entirely by donations, primarily by the Pancheri family. Concrete was donated by Champion Inc.
