Five nabbed in meth bust

IRON MOUNTAIN — Five people were arrested in a methamphetamine bust Thursday in Iron Mountain, according to a press release issued this morning by the Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office and the KIND Drug Team.

Robert Donald Kotula, 29, of Minnesota and 29-year-old Kristen Nicole Mercier of Bark River are charged with delivery of meth and possession with intent to deliver meth, both 20-year felonies.

Jessica Lee Urmanski, 34, of Bark River faces two counts of possession of meth, a 10-year felony, and a habitual offender-second status, which increases the maximum penalty to 15 years.

All three will be in Dickinson County District Court on April 19 for probable cause conferences and April 25 for preliminary examinations.

The other two suspects, a 36-year-old Green Bay, Wis., man and a 26-year-old Escanaba man, have not yet been arraigned.

KIND officers, with the help of a confidential informant, conducted a controlled buy of meth Thursday evening. Officers then followed the suspect vehicle to the Mountain Host Motor Inn in Iron Mountain, where the occupants went inside, according to the release.

Officers arranged a second controlled buy and then followed the suspect vehicle to the north side of Iron Mountain, where they conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspects, the release states.

A search warrant at the Mountain Host Motor Inn, where one of the suspects had rented a room, revealed about 40 grams of crystal meth hidden in the ceiling, as well as digital scales and other drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
