YMCA nears fundraising goal
Less than $25,000 from the $2.4 million needed to renovate community center
IRON MOUNTAIN – With just a few more weeks remaining in its Capital Campaign, the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center is less than $25,000 from hitting its goal of $2.4 million to renovate the Crystal Lake Community Center building and perform a complete rebuild of the pool.
“The support from the businesses and members of our community has been just awesome,” Center Director Jonathan Ringel said. “We are on pace to meet and exceed our goal by the end of June when our campaign closes.”
Roughly $1.8 million of the $2.4 million goal was raised during a quiet campaign that began more than two years ago. In January of this year, the YMCA went public to raise the final $650,000. And with the campaign set to conclude June 30, Y officials expressed confidence in surpassing the mark.
The more money the Y raises, the more it can do to improve and remodel the near 50-year Crystal Lake Community Center. By hitting the $2.4 million mark, the Y will have enough funding for a complete rebuild of the pool, locker rooms and an overall remodel of the fitness center including all new cardio equipment.
“It’s humbling,” Ringel said. “The support has been amazing. It shows that this community believes in what the YMCA does to advance youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and they want to see us keep doing it for years and years to come.”
From corporate to private support, the Y has collected gifts from nearly 300 different contributors since the campaign began.
“The success of this campaign is remarkable,” Ringel said. “But we’re not done yet. Every additional gift we receive from now until the campaign closes at the end of the month is only going to enhance what we can do with the facility and provide for our community.”
Once the campaign closes, Y officials will finalize construction plans and show the community renderings of what is ahead for the facility. The rebuild of the pool, one of the biggest components of the campaign, will take place in the summer of 2019. And all renovation and remodeling should be completed by the fall of 2019.
