Man killed by falling tree in Delta County

MAPLE RIDGE TOWNSHIP — A man was killed at his Delta County camp Wednesday after he was struck by a falling tree, Michigan State Police at the Gladstone Post said.

Troopers were called to a camp on Summer Meadow G.5 Road in Maple Ridge Township about 1:10 p.m. about a man knocked unconscious after a tree fell on him.

Dale Dennison, 73, of Milan, Mich., was working at his camp when a tree he was cutting got caught on other trees and did not fall. Dennison then tied a rope to the bottom of the tree and began pulling on it with his four-wheeler. The tree suddenly started to fall toward Dennison, who was unable to get out the way.

CPR was performed by multiple troopers and Rock EMS, along with use of an AED, but attempts to revive Dennison were unsuccessful. Dennison was pronounced dead at the site.
