Man killed in Escanaba house fire Tuesday

ESCANABA — A man died in a house fire Tuesday night after he became trapped in the upstairs of the burning structure, according to Escanaba Public Safety officers.

Officers were called to a two-story house at 301 N. 12th St. at 10:21 p.m., and were told a man was trapped upstairs in the area where the fire was located.

After suppressing the fire, officers searched the upstairs of the home and discovered the body of a man in his late 30s who died in the fire.

His name has not yet been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officers said. Crews remained at the site early this morning. The home showed little signs of exterior damage.
