Rodeo kick-off party Tuesday in downtown Iron River

IRON RIVER — The Iron County Economic Chamber Alliance, in partnership with the Iron River DDA and U.P. Pro Rodeo Board, will host a rodeo kick-off party on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Klint Safford Memorial RV Park in downtown Iron River.

“The rodeo is one of those iconic community events that people from all over plan their summer around,” said Erika Lindwall, Chamber director for the Alliance. “We wanted to give folks a reason to come to town early and celebrate the Rodeo all week.” Festivities of the evening will include a cornhole tournament, bonfire, live music, beer tent and freshly prepared food catered by Dabeck’s Eatery & Catering.

The cornhole tournament will be organized by Up North Bar & Grill and interested participants are encouraged to sign up there prior to the night of the event, though entries will be accepted during the event as well. There will be $400 in cash prizes doled out during the evening and entry in the tournament is free of charge.

While the tournament is going on, event attendees will be able to enjoy the musical stylings of a unique Quad Cities-based rock duo, Jordan Danielsen and Jef Spradley. With witty banter and a 500-plus song repertoire ranging from the 1950s to present day, every show is different. This will be their first performance in the U.P.

“You’re not going to want to miss these guys,” said Paul Schuytema, executive director of the Alliance. “Jordan and Jef are both professional musicians who not only play with incredible musicality, but also put on an amazing show.”

“We hope the community will come celebrate the start of rodeo week and enjoy good food, cold beer, and great entertainment,” said Lindwall.

The event is free to attend, and food and drinks will be available for purchase.
