Baraga woman killed in crash

SIDNAW — A 72-year-old Baraga woman is dead after a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on M-28 near Sidnaw in Houghton County’s Duncan Township.

Roberta Vizina was driving a 2000 Honda Accord west on the highway about 1:45 p.m. when she struck the rear of a 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by 59-year-old Karen Moller of Eveleth, Minn., that was stopped for a temporary lane closure, Michigan State Police-Calumet Post troopers said.

Moller’s vehicle then struck the rear of a 2001 Kenworth semi-truck driven by 49-year-old Garrett Ayotte of Bad Axe, Mich., that also was stopped for the lane closure, troopers said.

Vizina was taken by Bay EMS to Baraga County Memorial Hospital, where she later was pronounced dead, troopers said. Moller and Ayotte reported no injuries, they added.

M-28 was temporarily closed while troopers investigated the crash and the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
