Community HOPE walk, picnic set for Sept. 8

IRON MOUNTAIN — Each year, Community HOPE for Suicide Prevention hosts an event and walk at City Park in Iron Mountain.

“This year, it’s our 10th anniversary and we will be having a full performing band and dance by local band UnHushed Grace,” event coordinator Carole Waitrovich said. The walk and activities will be noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.

Community HOPE is an organization that raises funds for suicide awareness. The group helps educate people about warning signs and also helps those who struggle financially with mental health appointments and medications. An annual event also takes place in memory of loved ones who died by suicide.

“These funds will support vital research, education, advocacy, local suicide prevention initiatives and programs to support those impacted by suicide,” Waitrovich said.

The event Sept. 8 will include a spaghetti dinner, walk, drawings, children’s activities, bounce house, snacks and beverages and special speaker Randy St. John.

Registration will be noon to 2 p.m. the day of the event at $10 per person, with ages 5 and younger free. The event program will be 2 to 7 p.m., with music from 7 to 10 p.m.

Those who would like to volunteer to help can call Waitrovich at 906-396-7819 or Dylan Hagerty at 715-219-2670 or email to 2011chsp@gmail.com.
