Drop-off area changes at Niagara Schools

NIAGARA, Wis. — As part of new safety initiatives, parents of Niagara School students will no longer be able to pick up and drop off students in back of the school, District Administrator Nate Burklund told the school board this week.

He said a letter would go out to parents to explain the changes. The district will be locking the back doors as part of security measures at the school. Bus drop-offs will be in back in the mornings, with each individual bus dropping off all its passengers in turn. Afternoon bus pick-ups will be in front.

Parent drop-offs will be in front of the school, near the circular drive, but there will be no drop-offs in the circular drive either, he said.

He said he expected the new policy to create some confusion and be hectic at the start of school, but it should go more smoothly as the year progresses.

“It’s a big change,” he added.

In other business, the board:

— Learned Burklund is close to finishing a grant proposal for more school security funds.

— Added a date that individual teacher contracts much be signed. If they are not signed by that date, the district can post the position.

— Learned the district will be looking at a project for the school forest.

— Heard the district may partner with Habitat for Humanity to build storage sheds and/or ramps.
