NORWAY — Sections of the Norway Off-Road Vehicle Trail and forest road known as the “Cassidy Creek Truck Trail” will be temporarily closed this fall for trail improvements, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said.

The work will include new culvert, bridge and decking installation, along with other trail improvements, that will occur as part of an ORV Trail Improvement and Restoration Project.

Work has begun at the box culvert site on the Cassidy Creek Truck Trail and is anticipated to continue through mid-September. Once that site has been completed, the contractor will move to the Cassidy Creek Bridge site also located on the Truck Trail.

Work at both sites will force the closure of a segment of the Cassidy Creek Truck Trail, which also serves as a portion of the Norway ORV Trail.

“Trail users can expect this segment to be closed until approximately Sept. 30,” said Rob Katona, central Upper Peninsula trails specialist for the DNR. “When this portion of the project is complete and inspected, state officials will re-open this section of shared forest road and ORV trail.”

The second phase of the project will begin on the North Loop of the Norway ORV Trail. This section is currently closed due to impassible trail conditions. It is hoped this section will be reopened in late spring or early summer 2019.

Trail and road closure signs are posted on the Cassidy Creek Truck Trail and Norway ORV Trail and project work sites are barricaded.
