Memorial scholarship established at IMHS for Jacob Weslin

JACOB WESLIN

IRON MOUNTAIN — A new scholarship has been established by the Iron Mountain High School graduating class of 2015, in memory of their classmate, Jacob Weslin, who passed away in a tragic accident this past spring.

Weslin graduated from IMHS in 2015. He attended Northern Michigan University, earning an associate degree in criminal justice. His ultimate goal was to fulfill his dream of serving his country with the Special Ops of the U.S. Air Force Combat Control, an accomplishment he worked hard to achieve.

While at IMHS, he participated in football and the wrestling program. He had a big impact on the youth wrestlers, always willing to help in their events and being a positive role model for these young students.

His teachers described him as a very grounded and wonderful young man. His work ethic was strong and he treated others with dignity. Outside of the classroom, he enjoyed working out and being active outdoors hiking, hunting and fishing.

His classmates have come together to pay tribute to this fine young man. They are raising money to support this scholarship by selling memorial stickers, which can be purchased at Iron Mountain High School for $5 or $10. Several classmates are raising funds by participating in the Lansing half marathon. These acts are evidence of the undeniable influence Weslin had on his fellow classmates. He is greatly missed.

The scholarship, which will be awarded to the Class of 2019 will be available in early spring. To be eligible for the Jacob Weslin Memorial Scholarship, applicants must be attending a two or four-year accredited college/university, pursuing a degree in their field of choice.

They must have averaged a 2.5 GPA through their high school career and also have participated in Mountaineer athletics while at IMHS.
