VA offering free flu shot clinics

IRON MOUNTAIN –The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain will continue to offer walk-in flu shot clinics for veterans enrolled in the VA’s health care system today through Monday, excluding the weekend.

Veterans may receive their free flu shots from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the facility’s main outpatient clinic waiting area. No appointment is necessary.

Veterans may also currently request the flu shot at their regularly scheduled VA appointments both at the Iron Mountain-based medical center or at any of its seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics in the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin.

Veterans enrolled in VA health care who received their flu shot elsewhere are requested to contact their VA primary care clinic and provide that information.

Veterans may call 800-215-8262, ext. 34758, for updated VA flu shot clinics at the medical center and its Community Based Outpatient Clinics in the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin

In addition, the VA has partnered with Walgreens to provide no-cost flu shots to enrolled veterans without filling out VA forms or carrying paper records. Veterans can simply go to their local Walgreens, tell the pharmacist they receive care at a VA facility, and show their Veterans Identification Card or other proof they are enrolled in the VA health care system. The immunization record will be updated electronically in the veteran’s VA medical record.
