L’Anse man killed in crash

BARAGA TOWNSHIP — A 31-year-old L’Anse man died Thursday morning in the two-vehicle collision in Baraga Township, according to the Baraga County Sheriff’s Department.

Lisa Zasadnyj, 37, of L’Anse was struck head-on by James Turiff on U.S. Highway 41, north of Menge Creek Road in Baraga Township, according to officials. Turiff was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zasadnyj was transported by Bay Ambulance and taken to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s department was dispatched at 5:51 a.m. and closed the road between L’Anse and Baraga until 9:50 a.m, when one lane was opened. At approximately 10:50 a.m. both lanes were opened to travel.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Baraga Village Police, L’Anse and Baraga Fire Departments and Bay Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.
