Missing snowmobiler found dead in Delta County

DENNIS PELLINEN

ROCK — An Ishpeming man that went missing along with his snowmobile earlier this week was found dead Wednesday in northern Delta County, authorities said.

The body of Dennis Frederick Pellinen, 54, was located just before 5 p.m. Wednesday off North Rock Road near the community of Rock, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. He apparently had been involved in a snowmobile crash.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Pellinen after he was reported missing by his family Monday.

Pellinen last was seen in Rock at about 1 a.m. Sunday. Initially, he was believed to have left on his snowmobile about 6 p.m. that day; however, this turned out not to be the case, the sheriff’s department stated in a news release. No other details were provided.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is handling the accident investigation.

Assisting the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office in the search were the Michigan State Police, Marquette County Search and Rescue members and family members, friends and neighbors of Pellinen. A MSP helicopter arrived at KI Sawyer to help in the operation but was grounded due to bad weather after it landed to refuel.

In the release, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office thanked all who played a role in the search and expressed its condolences to Pellinen’s family and friends.
