Police identify fatal UP crash victims

MARQUETTE — Police have released the names of three Marquette relatives who were involved in a fatal traffic accident in St. Ignace Friday.

According to the St. Ignace Police Department, a car driven by Jacob Johnson, 18, of Marquette, was leaving Java Joe’s restaurant on North State Street to turn left and head south, but collided with a northbound pickup truck near South Airport Road.

Jacob Johnson died from his injuries Sunday at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. Will Johnson, 22, who was the front seat passenger in the vehicle, passed away about 2.5 hours after the crash at the Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace.

Kyle Johnson, 16, of Marquette, who was the back seat passenger, was taken to the Mackinac Straits Hospital and later transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in “serious condition,” police said.

The pickup truck was driven by Meghann Colegrove, 28, of St. Ignace, who was treated at Mackinac Straits Hospital and released, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation at this time, police said.

Jacob and Kyle Johnson are brothers who spent years playing in local junior hockey associations; Will Johnson is an uncle.
