Contractor approved for electrical work at public safety building
KINGSFORD — The Kingsford City Council chose M.J. Electric of Iron Mountain to install a backup power supply at the public safety building.
M.J. Electric had the lowest of five bids at $57,722 and was the contracter recommended by project engineer GEI Consultants of Iron Mountain, which reviewed the bids.
The other bids were: G. Brooks Electric of Iron Mountain, $60,314; Swick Plumbing and Heating of Marquette, $75,355; Master Electric Inc. of Escanaba, $59,293; and S & T Electrical of Sault Ste. Marie, $78,325.
A project start date has not yet been set, City Manager Anthony Edlebeck said. The work will allow a portable generator to be hooked up if power is lost at the building.
In other business, the council set a public hearing for 6:45 p.m. March 4 on the request to rezone the now-empty former Birchwood Mall property from B1 Community Business to B2 General Business. The planning commission recommended the switch after a request by the owner of the property. He had originally planned to build apartments in the building.
