DNR director to attend meeting Saturday in Escanaba

DAN EICHINGER

LANSING – Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Dan Eichinger is headed to the Upper Peninsula this weekend to attend sporting group gatherings Saturday in Escanaba and Marquette.

Eichinger said the visit will help him gain additional perspective from a couple of the outdoor groups providing important contributions in the U.P.

“Conservation in Michigan is a team sport,” Eichinger said. “Spending time with the members of the UPSA and U.P. Whitetails of Marquette County is a great opportunity for me to listen first and reaffirm our strong commitment to working alongside them and our other great partners across the state.”

Eichinger will attend the quarterly meeting of the Upper Peninsula Sportsman’s Alliance at the Great Lakes Sport and Recreation Club in Escanaba. The meeting is open to the public and will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Eastern time.

Michigan Natural Resources Commissioner Dave Nyberg of Skandia, former NRC Commissioner J.R. Richardson of Ontonagon and Mike Prusi, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s U.P. representative, are also scheduled to attend the meeting.

Later in the day, Eichinger will travel to Marquette to meet with members of U.P. Whitetails of Marquette County and attend the group’s annual banquet. The event is being held at the University Center on the campus of Northern Michigan University.

Next week, Eichinger will meet with DNR employees at meetings Monday in Marquette and Tuesday in Sault Ste. Marie.

Eichinger is the DNR’s 21st director. He was appointed to the position by Gov. Whitmer in late December. His first day on the job was Jan. 2. He replaces Keith Creagh, who was named to the NRC by former Gov. Rick Snyder.
