Juvenile arrested after IM store clerk stabbed

Victim treated for injuries and released

IRON MOUNTAIN — A 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody Friday night in connection with the stabbing of a 22-year-old female clerk at the Krist Oil convenience store at 1017 S. Stephenson Ave., said Edwin C. Mattson, Iron Mountain director of police and fire services.

In a news release, Mattson labeled the incident an attempted murder. The victim was treated for her injuries and released from Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, police said Saturday.

Officers were dispatched to the store at 9:16 p.m. and learned that the clerk was stabbed several times with a knife by a juvenile male who had come into the building. The suspect had fled on foot, but was arrested a very short time later inside the McDonald’s restaurant located across U.S. 2 just south of the convenience store, Mattson said.

The suspect was lodged in a juvenile detention center pending court action, Mattson said, adding that no further information would be released at this time.

Iron Mountain Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, Kingsford Public Safety Department and the Veterans Administration Police Department.
