Shots fired in Luce County

SAULT STE. MARIE — A man is in custody accused of attempted murder in an incident Thursday at a home in Luce County.

Michigan State Police troopers were called about 7 p.m. after a man reportedly broke into a Newberry home, fired several shots and struck a person with the firearm, according to a release from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post. The victim was able to flee the residence.

The man, who was related to the victim, was found at his own Newberry residence about 11 p.m. He was taken into custody after several hours of negotiation.

The incident remains under investigation.
