Top students in Class of 2019 at Kingsford

OLIVIA ALLEN

KINGSFORD — Kingsford High School in the Breitung Township Schools District has named the top 10 percent of its Class of 2019 seniors.

The top 10 percent earned a grade-point average of 3.917 to 4.17. They are:

— Olivia Allen, daughter of Craig and Trina Allen. Her school activities in school include track, volleyball, basketball captain, marching band, concert band, drumline, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Key Club, Links, class vice-president and SADD.

Community activities are tutor, Red Cross blood drive volunteer, Little Flivvs coach and Flivver golf outing event worker.

Honors are academic letter and bar, three-time track MVP, nine-time U.P. track champion, five school track records, two-time Hometown Lumber Athlete of the Month, Leadership in Service Scholarship nominee, A.P. Chemistry Student of the Month, Daily News Student of the Week, GNC Volleyball Second Team, GNC Basketball Honorable Mention, A.P. Calculus Student of the Month, selected to attend MYLead and Centralis Gold Scholarship.

VALERIE CAYLOR

Allen plans to study biology at Central Michigan University.

— Valerie Caylor, daughter of Carl and Theresa Caylor. Her school activities include National Honor Society secretary, Key Club vice-president, track, volleyball, basketball manager and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Community activities are Little Flivvs volleyball coach and Great Eight Winter Games volleyball coach.

Honors are academic letter and bar, Daily News Student of the Week, A.P. Chemistry Student of the Month, A.P. Calculus Student of the Month and Prudential Spirit of Community Service Award Winner.

Caylor plans to pursue a bachelor of science in kinesiology at the University of Michigan.

KYLAH ERICKSON

— Kylah Erickson, daughter of Kyle and Julie Erickson. Her school activities include student council secretary and National Honor Society.

Community activities are youth volunteers at First Covenant Church. Honors are academic letter and bar.

Erickson plans to study biology at North Park University toward becoming a pediatrician.

— Haley Gabriel, daughter of Megan Phillips. Her school activities include National Honor Society treasurer, student council president, golf and volleyball.

Community activities are more than 50 hours of volunteer service.

GABRIEL HALEY

Honors are academic letter and bar, A.P. Literature and Composition Student of the Month and Daily News Student of the Week

Gabriel plans to study law at University of Wisconsin in Madison.

— Reid Harry, son of Jeff and Lisa Harry. His school activities include football, robotics and National Honor Society.

Community activities are altar server at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church and Salvation Army bell ringer. Honors are academic letter and bar, perfect attendance from ninth to 12th grades and five-time A.P. Student of the Month.

Harry plans to study computer science at Michigan State University.

REID HARRY

— Peyton Johnson, daughter of Paul and Marian Johnson. Her school activities include Environmental Club, National Honor Society president, student council, cross country, track, soccer and swimming.

Community activities are more than 300 volunteer hours. Honors are Hometowne Lumber Athlete of the Month, All-State Cross Country, All U.P. Cross Country, All U.P. Swimming Dream Team, 10 school swimming records, swimming MVP, USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, MYLead, Leadership Service Scholarship nominee, A.P. Chemistry Student of the Month, A.P. Calculus Student of the Month, Advanced Physics Student of the Year, U.S. Air Force Award of Academic Excellence for Math and Science, American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, Wendy’s High School Heisman state finalist and MTU Society of Women in Engineers Merit Award.

Johnson plans to study biology or chemistry at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

— Tori Kowalkowski, daughter of Ed Kowalkowski and Kim and Gary Merrill. Her school activities include basketball, volleyball, softball, Key Club, SADD, Junior Class president, Senior Class president and National Honor Society vice president.

Honors are academic letter and bar, KHS Student of the Week and two-time HOSA regional finalist.

PEYTON JOHNSON

Kowalkowski plans to study biology at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

— Kayla Lindstrom, daughter of Kyle and Dawn Lindstrom. Her activities include Julie’s Top Hat Dance Studio, Tour de Dickinson, Dentistry for the Heart, Dentistry for Our Veterans, Dickinson Area Chamber Alliance and American Martyrs.

Honors are academic letter and bar.

Lindstrom plans to study mathematics and science at Northern Michigan University.

— Meryl Luoma-Mannisto, daughter of Chuck Mannisto and Polly Luoma-Mannisto. Her school activities include cheerleading, track, student council, band, band squad leader and drum major.

Community activities are Salvation Army bell ringing and highway cleanup. Honors are academic letter and bar, A.P. U.S. History Student of the Month, and A.P. Literature and Composition Student of the Month.

Luoma-Mannisto plans to major in behavioral neuroscience and minor in psychology at Grand Valley State University.

— Kimberly Martin, daughter of Kevin and Francie Martin. Her school activities include volleyball, Key Club, Pep Band, Jazz Band, SADD, National Honor Society, and junior and senior class treasurer. She also has been an afterschool tutor.

Honors are academic letter and bar, and A.P. U.S. History Student of the Month. Martin plans to study medical laboratory science at Michigan State University.

— Matthew Moreau, son of Michael and Lori Moreau. His school activities include football, tennis, basketball, student council, Academic Booster Club, Key Club, Business Professionals of America, Environmental Club and National Honor Society.

Community activities are altar server and lector at American Martyrs Parish, Red Cross Blood Drive, Mission Meal preparations, highway cleanup, Flivver Open Golf Tournament volunteer and the Edward’s Automotive Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Honors are academic letter and bar, two-time Daily News Student of the Week, Wisconsin Leadership Seminar, DAR Good Citizen Award, and The Detroit News Outstanding High School Graduate nominee.

Moreau plans to major in supply chain management at Michigan State University.

— Luke Terrian, son of Steve and Monica Terrian. School activities include basketball captain, football captain, baseball, student council and National Honor Society.

Community activities are altar server at American Martyrs Church, Salvation Army Bell Ringer and Kiwanis Ski Jump marker. Honors are academic letter and bar, Daily News Student of the Week, A.P. Chemistry Student of the Month, A.P. U.S History Student of the Month, Air Force Math and Science Award, Hometowne Lumber Athlete of the Year, Two-time Hometowne Athlete of the Month, Wendy’s High School Heisman state finalist, Basketball All U.P. and All-Conference, Basketball MVP, plus basketball 1,000 career points.

Terrian plans to study pre-medicine and biomedical engineering as well as play football at Michigan Technological University.

— Kallie Weecks, daughter of Erick Weecks and Stacey Lantagne. School activities include band, Pep Band and squad leader.

Community activities are figure skating and coaching, and Rotary International. Honors are academic letter and bar, and selection for study abroad in Italy with Rotary Youth Exchange.

Weecks plans to study general chemistry at Northern Michigan University.
