Two face meth charges in Dickinson County

IRON MOUNTAIN — Two men arrested after a traffic stop on drug-related charges were arraigned Monday in Dickinson County District Court.

Shane Smith, 21, of Iron Mountain and Jacob Fendley, 22, of Elkhart, Ind., were stopped Sunday evening when officers from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Smith was driving with a suspended license.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded multiple backpacks containing suspected methamphetamine, scales and resealable bags, according to the criminal complaints.

Smith is charged with one count of the delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; and operating with a suspended, revoked or denied license, a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 93 days in jail.

Fendley reportedly gave a false name to police during the traffic stop. He is charged with one count of the delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine, a 20-year felony; and one count of false statement of identity, a 90-day misdemeanor.

Preliminary examinations for both men are scheduled for June 4.

Smith’s bond was set at $12,500 cash, surety or 10 percent. Fendley’s bond was set at $15,000 cash, surety or 10 percent.
