IM man accused of assaulting woman
IRON MOUNTAIN — An Iron Mountain man has been accused of assaulting a woman Tuesday evening who authorities said required emergency surgery for her injuries.
Officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department were called to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday after the 27-year-old woman came in with what were described as significant injuries, according to a news release from Iron Mountain Director of Police and Fire Services Ed Mattson.
With a warrant and the assistance of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, police searched a residence on the city’s North Side at 9:40 p.m., arresting 35-year-old Bobby Lee Winebarger Jr. of Iron Mountain after reportedly finding evidence of the assault, Mattson said.
Winebarger was arraigned Wednesday in Dickinson County District Court on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, Winebarger reportedly hit the woman repeatedly in the abdomen with a wrench.
He is in the Dickinson County Correctional Center on a $75,000 bond.
