KINGSFORD — Back for the fifth year, FlivverFest brings a wide range of music to the audience this weekend.

The annual fundraiser, hosted by the Friends of the Flivvers, kicks off Friday and continues through Saturday evening at Lodal Park in Kingsford.

The festival, which is geared for young and old, features five local acts this year, said Rick Holland, event co-organizer.

Performing on Friday will be Tease, featuring Gracie Fries, from 5 to 8 p.m. and singer-songwriter Trevor Ohlsen of Iron Mountain from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, gates will open at 2 p.m., with music to start at 3:30 p.m. The lineup includes Fatwood of Iron River playing original and cover songs with a classic vibe from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and the classic rock group Norton Chartier and Company of Iron Mountain from 6 to 9 p.m.

The popular local band, Next Myle will conclude the festivities for the weekend with variety tunes from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

“Upper Audio Sound Production has once again booked great talent this year, as well as providing the stage, sounds and lighting,” Holland said.

The cornhole tournament also returns. “The event was so popular, we expanded to both days this year,” Holland said.

Teams can sign up for Friday’s competition, to begin at 5 p.m., or Saturday’s round at 3 p.m. Individuals can go to the Flivverfest Facebook page to sign up. Cost is $20 for each team.

The Kingsford Flivver Booster Club is in charge of concessions, offering a large selection of food and beverage items.

As in the past, KHS class reunions have secured their tents to take part in the weekend. “We have five classes celebrating with us,” Holland said.

Bounce houses for children will be open from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

“This year, the kids area has moved inside the gate area to be closer to the parents,” he said. Entry to the bounce house is included with the admission charge at the gate. They also will have a children’s activity tent set up.

The fireworks display starts at 9 p.m. Saturday. “Todd Dooley of Spread Eagle Fireworks has donated the use of tents and fireworks” he said.

Once again, the Friends of the Flivvers will have a large tent full of silent auction items.

There will be no Flivver 5K event this year, Holland noted.

He also recognized the Kingsford High School football teams for volunteering their time Wednesday morning to help with tent set-up.

Last year, FlivverFest brought in 2,500 people. “It was a great turnout,” he said. Admission for both days is $10 per person or $25 for a family at the gate.

All FlivverFest proceeds go to help fund Kingsford athletics.

“The Friends of Flivvers has been able to purchase quality equipment, including helmets and shoulder pads,” he said. “Everything goes to help out the school and kids.”
