IM woman accused of drug sale near school

MICHELLE WITHERS

IRON MOUNTAIN — An Iron Mountain woman accused of selling drugs near a school pleaded not guilty Monday in Dickinson County Circuit Court.

Michelle Withers, 31, is charged with the delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; and possession of a controlled substance on school or library property, a 20-year felony. She is out on a $15,000 bond.

In a separate case, Withers is charged with the manufacture or distribution of a controlled substance imitation, a two-year felony. She is out on a $5,000 bond.

Withers waived arraignment, so was not required to appear in person. The pleas were entered on her behalf by Dickinson County Circuit Judge Christopher Ninomiya.

According to the criminal complaint, Withers sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant during a controlled transaction within 1000 feet of the Iron Mountain High School on Dec. 12. Laboratory tests confirmed the substance as methamphetamine, the complaint stated.

Withers also reportedly sold a substance presented as methamphetamine to a confidential informant during a controlled transaction Dec. 19. Further analysis showed the possible presence of methamphetamine, but no identification could be made due to insufficient concentration, the second complaint stated.

Withers was arrested June 3 by the KIND drug team.

A pre-trial conference is set for Aug. 5.
