Immunization clinics planned

Florence, Wis. — Florence County Health Department immunization clinics will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest/NWTC building in Aurora; and from 2 to 4 p.m. at the health department, located in the courthouse in Florence. Please call the Health Department at 715-528-4837 to schedule an appointment. No walk-ins, please.

All immunizations for children 18 and under are free if the child is a Medicaid participant, does not have insurance or if the family’s private insurance doesn’t cover vaccines. Information and consent forms must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. If children are coming to the clinic with another person, please ask to have the forms sent to you prior to the clinic.

Tdap for adults is also being offered for free regardless of insurance status. Tdap is a vaccine that provides protection against the bacterial diseases of tetanus (Lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) which are very serious diseases. Tdap vaccine is also recommended for pregnant women in order to protect newborn babies against pertussis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also recommends the pneumonia shot for adults age 19-64 if smoking or have a diagnosis of diabetes and for adults 65 years and older. The pneumonia shot is covered by Medicare and most insurance.

If you are unsure of your vaccination status please call the Florence County Health Department at 715-528-4837 or visit the Wisconsin Immunization Registry at https://www.dhfswir.org/PR/clientSearch.do?language=en to access your records.
