IM woman drowns in river at Spread Eagle

SPREAD EAGLE, Wis. — An Iron Mountain woman reportedly drowned Saturday on the Menominee River in Spread Eagle, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

The 52-year-old woman was found floating in the water at the Vagabond Park boat launch just after 4 p.m., according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The woman had returned from a boat ride with a male acquaintance and was left waiting at the dock while the man went to the parking lot to retrieve his vehicle and trailer, the sheriff’s office stated. When the man returned a few minutes later, he discovered the woman face-down in the water.

He was able to get the woman onto the dock and perform CPR, the release stated, but the woman was pronounced dead at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. An autopsy is scheduled to be done today.

The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of family. The incident remains under investigation.

Florence County deputies were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Iron Mountain Police Department and Beacon Ambulance.
