Truck leaks fuel in Iron County

BATES TOWNSHIP — A tractor/truck leaking diesel fuel slowed traffic Thursday on U.S. 2 in Iron County, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post.

Troopers responded to the call about 1:10 p.m., when the eastbound vehicle’s 81-gallon tank began to leak near Larson Park in Bates Township.

Authorities contained the fuel and cleaned the roadway and shoulder, the release stated.

The driver of the tractor/truck, a 58-year-old Iron River man, was cited for spilled load on the highway.

Troopers were assisted by the Iron River Police Department, West Iron County Fire Department and Aspirus Ambulance.
