Kingsford Public Safety makes two fire visits to muffler shop

KINGSFORD — There were no injuries reported after a fire Thursday at Scotty’s Muffler & Brake Shop in Kingsford, according to a release from Kingsford Public Safety.

Officers responded to the fire at 4:58 p.m. When they arrived two minutes later, the shop owner had extinguished most of the blaze, the release stated.

KPS used extinguishers from a squad car to further suppress the fire prior to the arrival of the fire truck.

There was no damage to the structure and minimal damage to its contents, the release stated. Officers determined a vehicle fuel line malfunction caused the incident.

KPS was assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department and Beacon Ambulance before returning to the station at 5:23 p.m.

But officers returned to the shop again at 5:44 a.m. Friday when smoke was seen coming from the building.

Upon investigation, officers determined a possible electrical short from the previous incident caused ceiling insulation to smolder.

The insulation was removed and KPS cleared the scene at 8:05 a.m.
