Walk for Freedom on Saturday in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN — On Saturday, tens of thousands of people will gather all over the world for A21’s 6th annual fundraising and awareness event, Walk For Freedom.

Walks will take place in over 450 cities across 50 countries raising awareness for the millions enslaved across the globe. The Walk for Freedom in Iron Mountain will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, starting and ending at First Covenant Church, 125 East H St.

“The actual walk is about 1.5 miles,” said Connie Tresedder, local organizer. “If someone can’t walk but wants to volunteer there are other things they can do.”

Walkers will meet in the back parking lot of First Covenant Church. They will walk down H Street toward Carpenter Avenue, heading north to Hughitt Street, and turning east to Stephenson Avenue. The walk will then proceed south on Stephenson back to H Street.

Walk For Freedom is operated by a global anti-human trafficking organization, A21. The event is a global response to human trafficking — reaching millions with the important message: that slavery still exists. By fundraising and rallying thousands of people around the cause, the hope is that awareness would spread and lead to the rescue and restoration of human beings who are being exploited.

Participants will be walking in single-file lines all over the world — in local towns and cities on dirt tracks in crowded villages, along bridges, tunnels, and water banks. Hundreds of local walks will be marching for a global end to modern-day slavery. More information about Walk For Freedom and A21 can be found at A21.org and A21.org/Walk.
