Structure fire in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN — There were no injuries reported after a structure fire Thursday on the 300 block of East Fleshiem Street in Iron Mountain.

The Iron Mountain Fire Department responded to the fire at 2:07 p.m. and upon arrival saw smoke coming from the roof and attic vents of the building, according to a release from Deputy Director of Fire Services Jeff Friedenstab.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze on the second floor of the building before moving into the attic. Additional firefighters applied salvage covers to protect valuables throughout the first floor, the release stated.

The second floor of the building sustained light to moderate fire damage; the attic sustained moderate damage.

Firefighters returned to the station at 4:22 p.m.

The IMFD determined the origin of the fire was electrical in nature. An investigation is still ongoing.

Firefighters were assisted by the Iron Mountain Police Department, Iron Mountain Department of Public Works, Integrity Care EMS, American Red Cross, We Energies and DTE.
