ND holds Healthy Body, Healthy Mind day

North Dickinson County School District seniors from left, Cameron Schultz, John Mayfield, John Briggs and Ricki Mattson participate in FUNctional Movement for Energy. “This was our best conference yet and many students found it beneficial,” Mattson said. This was the third annual Health Body Healthy Minds conference put on by North Dickinson.

FELCH — On Dec. 3, North Dickinson sixth through 12th grade students participated in a Healthy Body, Healthy Mind day.

The students were broken into groups by grade and attended sessions throughout the day that focused on promoting their physical, emotional, and social health.

Sessions this year included: Anxiety and Coping Skills, Goal Setting and Resiliency, Mindful Breathing and Movement, FUNctional Movement for Energy, Personal Safety and Awareness, and Question Persuade Respond Training.

North Dickinson officials thanked the Michigan State Police, Communities that Care, DIISD, and Full Moon Rising for allowing some of their staff to spend the day educating North Dickinson students.

The school was very thankful this year to have received a mini-grant from the Dickinson Area Community Foundation to help cover the cost of supplies for the day.

Representatives from several area schools also participated in the day to learn about how the day runs so they can possibly implement something similar in their own schools.

North Dickinson administrators, teachers, and staff are extremely grateful for the support from the community and the willingness of everyone to work together to help promote the physical, mental, and emotional health of the ND students.
