IRON RIVER — The 53rd annual Upper Peninsula Championship Rodeo, which was to be held in Iron River the weekend of July 17 and 18, has been canceled.

This includes the queen and princess pageants and the 2020 raffle, officials said. All money received from sponsorships, vendors, queen and princess contestants, the raffle and market days will be refunded.

The health and well-being of the staff, volunteers, spectators and participants all played into the decision, as well as current economic uncertainties, said Bernadette Coates, rodeo committee president and treasurer.

“We hope for greener pastures and will see you in July 2021,” Coates said in a press release, joined by Ashley Gagnea, committee treasurer, and Kimberlee Mangone Dye, pageant coordinator.
