New Mackinac County case, warning for island residents

Only one new case of COVID-19, in Mackinac County, was reported in the Upper Peninsula on Wednesday.

The Luce-Mackinac-Alger-Schoolcraft District Health Department has urged Mackinac Island residents to strictly follow the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order, stating that COVID-19 cases have been confirmed that are related to the island and had no recent history of travel.

The U.P. on Wednesday afternoon had 69 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 11 deaths, listed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

MDHHS data shows Menominee, Luce and Chippewa each have a single COVID-19 case; Houghton had two cases; Schoolcraft and Dickinson counties each have three cases, with two deaths in Dickinson County; Gogebic County has four cases and a death; Mackinac County has five cases; Delta County has 12 cases and two deaths; and Marquette County has six deaths among its 35 cases.

The MDHHS also separately lists prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

U.P. counties with no COVID-19 cases so far are Iron, Baraga, Keweenaw, Alger and Ontonagon.

The MDHHS reported 999 new COVID-19 cases in the state Wednesday afternoon, with a total of 33,966 to date. The state had 113 new deaths for a total of 2,813 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System lists two county residents testing positive at its facilities, with two deaths, along with five positives from other counties; those counties were not identified. DCHS has tested 157 people for COVID-19, with seven positive, 133 negative and 17 results still pending.

In Wisconsin, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site by county showed six positive cases and a death in Marinette County and two positives in Florence County. Wisconsin’s Iron County has two cases with a death. Vilas County has four cases while Forest County has yet to have a positive case with 37 tests done so far.

Statewide, Wisconsin has recorded 4,845 cases of COVID-19 and 246 deaths as of Wednesday afternoon.
